When you’re thinking of moving home, there’s usually a long list of things to look for.

First and foremost is the property itself. But then there are things like local transport links, access to amenities, the local community, night life (or peace and quiet!), and many other things to consider.

However, one thing that’s becoming increasingly important to home movers is the availability of a good internet connection. In fact, it can often make or break a potential move.

Research from Yopa suggests that 28% of people would pay more for a home with fast internet, and a whopping 71% wouldn’t buy an otherwise ideal home if the internet wasn’t fast enough. If you ever needed proof of the importance of broadband in the home moving decision, there it is!

And with home working, movie streaming, online shopping and video calling becoming essential to our everyday lives, good broadband should probably be very near to the top of every prospective mover’s list.

Getting the best connection

Many new housing developers are now ensuring ultrafast broadband access at new properties. The chances are if you’re moving into a new build, you’ll have access to top notch broadband.

In fact, Barratt homes will be ensuring that their new properties have all the connections in place to enable new homeowners to choose between all the major full fibre providers (including Zen). Expect that to become the norm in the future.

But what if you’re not moving into a new build with all the right connections?

Thankfully, many estate agents now provide estimated broadband speeds right alongside property information on their websites, so it really is easy to know what kind of speeds you should expect.

Making the move

When it comes time to make the move, if you’ve decided to take your current supplier with you it’s always good to give them as much notice as possible. They’ll usually need at least two weeks ideally to ensure that everything’s set up properly for your move in date.

But once you’ve made the decision, and informed your supplier, there’s really not much else to worry about. They’ll normally take care of everything for you.

And if you’re making the move with Zen, it’s nice to know that our Superfast broadband is available to most addresses, and our ultrafast full fibre coverage – which is already available to millions of homes - is increasing rapidly.

That means when you’re moving home you’ll still be able to enjoy great Zen connectivity at your new address. Just check your prospective new postcode here to find out what speeds you could be enjoying, then take a look at our how to switch guide for what to do when you’re ready to make the move.
