Transferring a Domain name to Zen

Before you start

If you want to move your domain to Zen, hereʼs what will happen during the transfer. If your domain ending isnʼt listed here, we canʼt transfer it.

Make sure you understand your current hosting and domain setup with your current provider. Sometimes, transferring a domain means stopping all services with them. If youʼre not sure, ask your IT team or hosting provider before you begin.

Also, check if your current host or domain provider turns off DNS right away when you transfer. Some do, some give you a grace period. Knowing this helps you plan and avoid downtime.

1. ICANN domains (.com, .net, .biz, .eu, .info, .org)

Hereʼs how the transfer works for ICANN domains:

Place your transfer order with Zen online at: Register a Domain Name | Zen

Ask your current registrar to:

Unlock the domain
Give you the EPP / authorization code

After you place the order, watch for emails from our supplier, OpenSRS.

Check your junk or spam folder too, just in case.
Youʼll get approval emails that need your action, like providing your EPP code securely.

Once you complete all approvals, the transfer usually finishes within 5 full working days.

2. Nominet domains (.co.uk, .org.uk, .me.uk)

Hereʼs how the transfer works for Nominet domains:

Place your transfer order with Zen online at: Register a Domain Name | Zen

Ask your current registrar to:

Change the IPSTAG to ZENSYS

Nominet domain transfers usually finish within 48 hours.

3. Nameservers and DNS records

Nameservers stay the same as before the transfer. If you want to change them, you can do that after the transfer is done. Hereʼs a guide to updating your nameservers:

DNS services are not provided until your domain has fully transferred.
