Cut the cord... not the benefits!

The good news is that the landline isn’t disappearing—it’s evolving. Saying goodbye to traditional landlines opens the door to a range of new benefits that modern voice solutions like CloudComms can offer.

What's the difference between the traditional landline and CloudComms?

Unlike traditional landlines that rely on physical phone lines, CloudComms routes calls over the internet, allowing you to make and receive calls from any internet-connected device, such as a computer, smartphone, or VoIP-enabled desk phone. This gives businesses greater flexibility, improved call quality, and access to advanced features that keep teams connected—whether in the office or on the go.

With CloudComms you can:

Take your business with you. Wherever. Whenever.

Take all the business benefits of that fixed line with you, whilst you're on the go! The Webex app means you can take your fixed line calls on your mobile and manage hybrid working with ease! All the reputational and brand benefits of that known and trusted number, none of the traditional landline headaches. As long as you've got an internet connection you can make or take that call from your fixed business number!

How CloudComms works in 3 simple steps...

1

Get your digital landline number

Just like a traditional landline, your CloudComms number comes with a geographical area code followed by your unique 6-digit number. You can:

  1. Pick any area code - even if you're not based there.
  2. Port your existing number over (one off fee of £15).
2

Choose the right licences for your team

Not every team member uses the phone the same way. With CloudComms, you can mix and match licences to suit your needs:

  1. Need to make a lot of outbound calls? Choose a full-feature license.
  2. Only need to answer incoming calls? Opt for a lower-tier license.
  3. Scale up or down as your business grows!
3

Start making and taking calls!

You’ll need a way to use your CloudComms number – and we’ve got options:

  1. Desk phone: Use a CloudComms-enabled Yealink phone (included free in selected licences)
  2. Softphone: Turn your computer into a phone with the Webex desktop app.
  3. Mobile App: Stay connected with Webex where you go with Webex on your mobile - perfect businesses that aren't office based or for remote teams.

Wondering how CloudComms works? What's involved in upgrading? Here's are most frequently asked questions...

Your business currently relies on the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) to make and receive calls, but this system is being retired. From December 2025, Openreach can issue just 90 days' notice before discontinuing your landline service.

To stay connected, you'll need to switch to a voice service that runs over your internet connection—like CloudComms. This ensures your business can continue making and receiving calls seamlessly, with added flexibility and modern features that go beyond a traditional landline. Upgrading now helps you avoid last-minute disruption and future-proofs your communications.

If you're using an older broadband technology like ADSL or FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet), then yes, an upgrade is required. These services rely on the PSTN, which is being switched off.

To continue using voice services, you'll need to upgrade to:

✔ SoGEA (Single Order Generic Ethernet Access) - Broadband without the need for a landline.

✔ Full Fibre (FTTP) - Delivers ultra-fast speeds with fibre optics directly to your premises.

✔ Leased Line - A dedicated, high-performance connection ideal for businesses. If you're unsure about your broadband, we can help you check your options.

In many cases, yes - you can use an adapter to connect CloudComms to your current handset or phone system. However, we don't usually recommend this because it limits access to key CloudComms features like call logs, call transfers, and call waiting.

For the best experience, we recommend using Webex or one of our Yealink handsets, designed to take full advantage of CloudComms.

Webex is a powerful app for desktop and mobile, allowing you to make and receive calls from your business number—without needing a separate phone.

✔ Answer and make calls from anywhere

✔ Keep your business number on the move

✔ Enjoy advanced features like voicemail-to-email and team messaging

Making calls with Webex is simple:

1️⃣ Log into the Webex app on your desktop or mobile.

2️⃣ Dial the number you want to call, just like you would on a desk phone.

3️⃣ Use business-grade features like call transfers, conferencing, and voicemail. It’s a flexible way to stay connected, whether in the office, at home, or on the go.

Both the Yealink T31G and Yealink T33G are high-quality CloudComms-compatible VoIP (Voice over IP) phones, but they have some key differences:

Need help deciding? Let us know your business needs!

Since CloudComms runs over your broadband connection, a power outage could impact calls—but we've got solutions:

✔ Webex App: If your office loses power, simply switch to making and receiving calls on your mobile using Webex.

✔ Battery Backup: Keep your router powered during outages with a battery backup device, allowing your CloudComms service to continue running for several hours. These options help ensure your business stays connected, no matter what.

Absolutely! Your landline number is often key to your business identity, so we make it easy to keep.

✔ Port your existing number to CloudComms for a one-off cost of £15 (ex VAT)

✔ Even if your number is with another provider, we can transfer it over

✔ Maintain consistency for your customers while upgrading to a modern phone system
