How long does it take for the service to be activated?
Usually 10-12 working days. If you require the service to be activated sooner please contact our Sales team on 0845 058 9000 who can advise of our Expedite service.
What is the minimum contract term?
The minimum contract for the SDSL service is 12 months.
Is SDSL available on my exchange?
SDSL is not enabled on every BT telephone exchange in the UK so in some areas of the country it may not be available.
Our Sales team will be happy to run an availability check from your postcode. You can call them on 0845 58 9000.
Why would I need SDSL, over ADSL?
With SDSL you get symetrical download and upload speeds that makes SDSL upload speeds sonsiderably faster than other broadband connections. This is useful for the connection remote sites to share central resources your HQ or for off-loading data to remote locations.
Can my existing SDSL Service be migrated?
No. SDSL services cannot be migrated between providers.
Can I move my existing SDSL Service to a new location/property?
No. It will have to be a new installation as a new line will need to be installed.
Can I use SDSL to make standard voice calls?
No. SDSL uses the full bandwidth of the line therefore making conventional calls over the line is not possible. Considering calls over VoIP would be a viable alternative.
Will I need to arrange a new analogue line for the SDSL connection?
No. Unlike ADSL, a telephone line is not required. The installation charge covers the cost of Zen arranging for a BT engineer to install a dedicated line for your SDSL service. We will contact you to confirm the appointment date and time shortly after your order is placed.
Is there a Service Level Agreement with SDSL?
No. We do not offer a Service level Agreement (SLA) on SDSL as we cannot be responsible for the PSTN that SDSL is provided over. We can however provide an SLA on the SDSL Router. For more information please call the Sales Team on 0845 58 9000.
Who will install the service?
The service will be installed by an Openreach Engineer from Zen Internet.
Will the engineer know what service I am receiving?
Not necessarily. SDSL is a service delivered over a telephone line used for many other services. It is likely the engineer will refer to the installation jobs as an exchange line or MPF.
Will the engineer install the connection where I want it?
Yes, however, please be aware that you MUST ask the engineer to terminate the connection on to a new socket and not directly on to any internal telephony/networking infrastructure.
What hardware will I require?
You will need to use an SDSL router.
We strongly recommend purchasing a managed SDSL router from Zen. This allows our Managed Support team to pre-configure the hardware to your requirements, provide remote fault diagnostics and make unlimited changes and updates.
What speed will I get?
For the maximum speed (up to 2Mbps) you will need to be within approximately 1.6 km of their exchange. 1Mbps can be provided up to 2.5 km from the exchange and 512Kbps up to 3.4 km.
